Blue Surf 8

The Blue Surf Red Dust (BSRD) objective is to provide a means for coastal artists to play in various locations throughout the rural and outback regions of Australia and for rural artists to play in various locations along the coasts of Australia. It is a festival that travels and mirrors itself from the Surf to the Dust and the Dust to the Surf, taking artists both ways. The idea grew out of the busking streets of Beaumont St in Hamilton, Newcastle, where a Well Behaved Bushranger crossed paths with Mango the Warrior Poet in 2007 and found the name for a cause that both had been fighting for and writing about. Instead of waiting and complaining, together they decided BSRD would be the bridge they'd been looking for to get artists and their messages projected throughout the cities, suburbs, rural towns and outback communities of Australia. After recruiting the mental/man power of an Organik freak and some bloke that has Locks, for better or for worse a team formed to make the idea actually work. The core attitude behind BSRD is that while music, poetry and art provide good entertainment, essentially they have a more constructive and meaningful use. With the right boundaries in place we believe art provides a mirror for society to view itself and a way for community members to express themselves without negative consequence - essentially no matter what they have to say. Thus one of the central themes at BSRD festivals is to provide a vehicle for "anyone with something to say" to be heard... and clapped.
