How To Surf 48

The Government of Bihar is initiating steps to train farmers surf the Internet and help them sell their products across the globe.

Under this programme, a farmer advisory centre will be opened at every block across the state, which will be fully linked with the Internet. Bihar has a total of 534 community development blocks.

Bihar Agriculture Minister Nagmani informed that the farmers would be adequately trained about electronic marketing. "The training will help them know the global market rate of their products and get maximum benefits by selling their produce in the international markets," he added.

Officials in the state Agriculture Department said that the Bihar Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (Bameti) had been asked to work on this project and train the farmers to surf the Internet.

In the first phase, two officials from each district would be trained to surf the Internet before they could train the farmers.

For this purpose, Bameti is organising a three-day workshop from January 27 here during which officials will be trained how to surf the Internet and search farm-related sites.

During the workshop, the officials participating in the training will be informed about at least 50 such sites related to farmers and agricultural products.

"The state farmers are now free to sell their produce anywhere in the world after the scraping of Bihar Agricultural Produce Marketing Board, and this special training will obviously help them search their clients and get maximum benefits," Bameti Director RK Sohane said.
