What's the expression? "Everything '80s is new again"? Following the resurrection of skinny jeans, Ray Bans and slap bracelets, it was only a matter of time before the sunglasses-wearing shark had its day—again.
That's right, Spicoli chic is back, courtesy of Maui and Sons' new, candy-colored collaboration with Opening Ceremony. Vintage designs from the classic surfwear brand have been recreated for a limited-edition line of board shorts, T-shirts and sweatshirts available at OC in Los Angeles and New York, as well as Oak.
Since Maui and Sons was founded in 1980 by three surfers after a failed attempt at establishing a cookie company (seriously), the surfwear crew has always done things a bit differently. For their first ad in Surfer magazine, they skipped the photo shoot, opting instead to use a painting by founding partner Rick Rietveld. And the rest is history.
