Green Party of Santa Cruz County, California
The Green Party Began in Germany in the early 1980's as a political manifestation of the social movements supporting equal rights for women and nuclear abolition. The Green Party gained ballot status in California in 1992. There is one elected public officeholder in Santa Cruz County; Paul Franklin is serving his second term on the governing board of the Live Oak School District and served as Board President in 2006. There are many more Green elected and appointed public officeholders across the country and throughout the world. The Green Party supports nonviolence, environmental sensitivity, grassroots democracy and social justice. In addition, we work toward creating community-based economies, decentralized political structures, equality between women and men, systems that support diversity of thought and belief within social and political systems, sustainable social and environmental systems and frameworks which support personal responsibility.
To support the Green Party, register to vote and check the "Green Party" box as the party with which you affiliate. You can also run for public office and support others who are registered with the Green Party who are running for public office. Candidates need financial support as well as practical, tactical and logistical support in the form of volunteer energy. To help organize Greens locally you can contact Paul Franklin at
