Surf Art Show in Costa Mesa
Posted on Mon Dec 15 00:25:00 -0800 2008
Tis' the season to get arty, so FUEL.TV headed down to Costa Mesa to check out work from Robb Havassy, Phil Roberts, Bill Ogden, Rick Rietveld, Dew Brophy and Heather Ritts on Saturday night.
The small tucked away gallery had a steady stream of people passing through to check out the art assembled for the holidays. The show is a small representation of a bigger collection of artists (60 to be exact), who Havassy is trying to bring together in a book he's currently writing about surf artists. Havassy also hopes to turn the book into a traveling art show by 2010.
"It's a massive undertaking and with the current economic climate it's not feasible at the moment, but I am optimistic it will happen eventually," says Havassy.
In the meantime Havassy didn't want to let a little economic stress stop him from showing his own art and convincing fellow artists to share their work in time for the holidays. Check out some of the pieces we saw and for more information on Havassy and future art shows go to www.robbhavassy.com. Budget tight this year? Pick up one of his cool surf art calendars as a gift for a friend...
