QUEENSCLIFF SURFERS BENEFIT FROM NEW RESCUE BASE
Swimmers at Santa Casa surf beach in Queenscliff will be better protected following the official opening of a new surf rescue base.
The Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club developed the extra facility in a bid to improve swimmer safety at the popular beach.
The Minister for Commonwealth Games, Sport and Recreation, Justin Madden, described the $185,000 project as a fantastic addition to the Bellarine Peninsula.
Mr Madden said the Club could now deliver even better services to those using the surf beach.
“The popularity of this area continues to swell, so it’s a big step forward to have this new beach base for lifesaving patrols to operate from” he said.
“Locals, holidaymakers and day-trippers will be able to swim here with added peace-of-mind.”
Mr Madden praised the combined efforts of the Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club and the Borough of Queenscliffe for ensuring the project was completed.
The Bracks Government provided around $51,000 for the project through Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Life Saving into the 21st Century program.
This is in addition to $153,000 provided for the surf beach facility at Pt Lonsdale opened in January last year.
“This project is another example of how our Government is delivering on its commitment to build more recreational assets for community use in regional areas,” Mr Madden said.
“This facility at Queenscliff will assist the dedicated volunteers at the club to increase the quality and safety of beach-based recreation activities for years to come.”
