Surf Beach 91

Caloundra City Council has offered Dicky Beach Surf Life Saving Club a new 20-year lease to help it secure a loan for redevelopment.

Caloundra City Mayor, Don Aldous, said the new lease, which will need to be approved by the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy, will be effective from 2005 and will replace the existing lease, which is due to expire in August 2008.

“Surf Life Saving Clubs perform a valuable function in this City, not only providing quality recreation but also a valuable community service,” Cr Aldous said.

“Dicky Beach has been operating successfully and has been providing surf life saving duties in conjunction with Council’s Lifeguard service for many years.”

Dicky Beach Councillor, Don Smith, said the club had plans to extend the existing indoor sport, recreation and entertainment areas and upgrade facilities.

“The club needs a reasonable length of tenure in order to access a loan to fund these improvements,” Cr Smith said.

“The plans for redevelopment, which are being assessed by Council officers, fit in extremely well with the overall master planning of Dicky Beach.”
