Surf Boarders75

Surfboards are "Unisex". Yes, there are some companies that make boards with pretty, girlie patterns on them. But you don't surf on the pattern or design, you surf of the board. I suspect that you are a beginner, so I'll give you my speech about lessons:

Lessons shorten the learning curve significantly. And they help keep ignorant, un-prepared kooks out of the water and out of the way of more experienced surfers. Lessons can come from instructors, friends and family. I taught my kids and grandkids and a bunch of nieces and nephews

As a beginner you should take take advantage of renting boards and wetsuits while taking lessons. If it turns out you don't like surfing, you won't have wasted a whole lot of money on a board that you are not going to use. A surfboard is a big investment.

Be careful, don't buy boards made in far eastern sweatshop factories by people who have never even seen the ocean. here is a list of them:http://bp3.blogger.com/_hPACOtZKKko/RkST...

Also, avoid buying any borard that is "popped out" in a factory. Read the link to understand why.http://www.mckevlins.com/nopopstory.htm

A lot of the boards with cute names and girly designs are popouts. Don't worry about brand names, sometimes the best boards are made by good local shapers.

Don't waste your time on line. The only right way to buy a board is to go to a good local surf shop to discuss your size (weight is import, height isn't), skill level and local wave conditions. After 43 years of surfing, I still get my surfboard buying advice from good local shops in the places where i surf.

Good luck! I hope you find a good board.
