Surf Expo 09 Orange Count Convention Center Orlando, FL
Work hard each day networking your product, attending appointments for the store to view products, and then at 4pm getting down with everyone in sight with cold beer and cocktails makes for one tired crew after the 3 day event, but it was definitley worth it. Load in is crazy; fork lifts all going off, everyone in their space installing their display. Hearing an occassional wall fall was pretty funny. We were super blessed to be placed in a spot we referred to as "Soul Center". Everyone else was hooked together in rows. Our booths were all free standing without neighbors. To our right, Bill Stewart and across from us, Dan Taylor, and to the left, Ben Aipa with the builders display case in the middle. With the bulk of the industry concentrating on materials right now, we had the R.P.Q, which is all about new design. Enjoy the pictorial!!
Above left: the first board you saw as you entered the builder's area

MDC booth rats Alex and his buddy. They loved the Shiner Bock we brought. Above right: Jalufka corner at the MDC Exhibit. That boy gets good shots. We were complimented bigtime on the pics. Thanks, G and Steele!!
Alana helps James from Stewart break down. above right: Alana with Stewart freight, while Dan Taylor and Don look on. So many shapers loading out product. Surf Tech loaded in 100 and loaded out 92. Is it a sign of the times for surfshop owners? Or, is it a sign of the times that today it is really all about the CUSTOM SURFBOARD? Having to ship eveything back really broke some guys. We drove, so we had no worries. That's how we ended up with Dan's stock. We just couldn't sit there and let Dan stress on it, so we offered to bring it to Texas for him. He is stoked and his product is top knotch. They look hot in the racks at the shop.

Let There Be Rocket
The owners at Line Up were so stoked witht he R.P.Q., the owner ordererd one and they featured the design in the reccommended CONSUME section. We were very honored to be the only builder featured in this section of the mag. Drop by the shop and pick one up free of charge. The first block should be here by the end of the week. Here is a sneak peak at the cover, the ad and the editorial. Be on the lookout for MDC R.P.Q.'s to be hitting ESM. We'll be carrying ESM as well. Sponsored Rider Kyle Ferris Invited To Train in Cali with US Team by Coach Joey Buran
Two time Pipeline Master winner and new US Team Coach Joey Buran invited Kyle to come out and train with the US Team during an intensive training camp held the week of Sept 29, 2008. They had a team house at 54th St in Newport and based out of there surfing Hungtington, La Jolla, Oceanside, and catching EPIC Newport. We can't wait to see what he learned out there applied to the first contest coming up at the CC Open next weekend at Bob Hall Pier. Here is a shot of US Team Coach Joey Buran, Kyle Ferris along with fellow TGSA Grom Vincents Scroggs who was also invited. Feeling the need to get a good relationship going with a shaper, Vincent came in and ordered a board immediatley after the trip.

New From Mike Doyle Custom Surfboards: Introducing The Rocket Propelled Quad
We have been working on this new design line for some time now in conjunction with Flatstalker creator Roy Sanders. Nextcame months of R&D in the water in various conditions. The R.P.Q.’s performance exceeded all expectations. The coolest thing we discovered is that the R.P.Q. is not limited on design. Fish, longboard, shortie, whatever; the R.P.Q. is all about enhancement. We are so committed to the design of the R.P.Q., we invested in and have filed for pantent and trademark protection. The TM is filed already, patent pending. So just what is the R.P.Q.? This particular design features a double barrel deep channel through the quads. These channels produce incredible bursts of speed and insane tail lift for airs. MDC will now be offering all things Rocket Propelled Quad. Stop by and check them out. The longboard R.P.Q. is insane! Be looking for the R.P.Q. in the design forum in Surfer Mag. You can also check our website at mikdoylecustomsurfboards.com. Click on the RocketPropelledQuad link for more.

Ralph De Pena and I have been friends for 32 years and he as STOKED with his new board as we were to make him another JD eliminator!! Yeah, bradda!! Also featured in the background is our mascot Ringo the Dingo. He is head of security and in charge of all lunch leftovers at MDC. If you try to backdoor, you will be "greeted" by Ringo who is always on high alert. Backdoor at your own risk, especially if we eat vegetarian that day.
Here are just some of the Christmas boards we did this year. Others can be seen by clicking on Surfboards and choosing a board type or by clicking on the SickSurfReport

New Alva Decks In
Why do we deal directly with Alva Skates? Tony doesn't believe in mass production and neither do we. Mass production is a real bummer to the surf industry. It did wonders for the spinach industry. Plus, dealing with Alva Skates is NEVER boring. There are only 10 new decks in stock, so come by and check them out.
Tony Alva Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary
We'd like to congratulate Tony on his first year at the Fairfax store. We were really honored to recieve an invitation to this event. Due to the opening of our new location we were unable to attend. He is also celebrating his new shoe coming out by Van's. Everbody said the shop wouldn't make it, hence the chosen artwork for the invitation. Don't ever tell him he can't do something...
Sponsored Rider Morgan Faulkner Advances at Excel Pro/2006 Sunset Beach, HA
Sponsored rider Morgan Faulkner made it through round 2 today at the Excel Pro 2006 at Sunset Beach, Hawaii. In Round 1, one of his best scoring waves made the highlight loop. In Round 2 he landed a nice floater and pulled an air. The wind was on it and it it was pretty rough but by Round 3 it had glassed off and the sets were inconsistent. He had a tough heat with:
IZUKI TANAKA JPN
IAN WALSH HAW
GABRIEL VILLARAN PER
MORGAN FAULKNER HAW
Ian Walsh won this event last year and Tanaka was on. Morgan still managed to stay deeper than the pack, and took 3rd beating out Peruvian Villaran. He placed 33 out of 132 Pro's and won $700. This should bump him up well in rankings on the WQS. WAY TO GO MORGAN!!!
