SUNOVA SURFBOARD STATE LONGBOARD SERIES 2008.

Round # 1 – Yallingup.
SUPPORTED BY Sunova Surfboards, Sunsmart, Yallingup Beach Holiday Park and Surfing WA.

Rachel Dawe (Lancelin) took out the under 18 girls final, while Travis Bullbeck from Dunsborough claimed victory over Luke Burton (Hillarys), Elliot Fisher, Lachlan Shaw, and Mitch Corbett in the under 18 boys final.

Michelle Finucane (Palmyra) took out her more fancied opponents, Arlene Nagtzaam (Yallingup) and Lucy Pries (Bunbury) to win the over 35 womens.

Kevin Anderson (North Fremantle) secured the winners trophy over Ray Barker (Margaret River) in the over 40 mens final.

An impressive duel between Barrie McKinnon (Dunsborough) saw him reassert his dominance in the over 45 final to win from another local Brett Merrifield (Yallingup) in second and surprise packet of the weekend Mike Neunuebel (Denmark) in third, and Richard Wain (Yallingup) in fourth.

Two of the most closely contested finals of the older divisions were contested in the over 50 and 55 men’s finals.

Mandurah’s Chris Fullston got his own back on Norman Twight (Safety Bay), Bob Monkman (Yallingup) and Kim Davies (Busselton). This division is no doubt one of the most hotly contested and will be the one to watch when the one to keep an eye on when round two of the series hits Avalon Point next month.

In the over 55 men’s final an in form Gerry Bejarano (Trigg), held onto victory against Tony Harrison (Albany). The two were virtually having a contest of their own in the final. Matched wave per wave on their exchanges the lead constantly changed, but in the end Bejarano found a heat winning wave and did enough to take the win from Harrison by just 1.10 points.

All eyes are now turned towards round two of the series to be held May 10th & 11th at Avalon Point.

1st State Round Sunova Longboard Titles Yallingup.

The 1st State Round went off really well with fine weather, light off shores and plenty of swell for the weekend.
Everyone was delighted in Sunova's sponsorship and display of finely crafted boards by Sunova.
Their style, shapes and lightness impressed everyone. Everyone's mouths were watering at being an owner of a Sunova and the future of surfboards.

Looking forward to the 2nd State Round at Avalon in May.

Kind Regards to all at Sunova.
