surf boards 88

I have been riding RM boards since 1997 and they are as good to ride as they are to look at...

The latest creation, a 6'2" squashed square is easily the best board I have ever ridden. I guess that is the funny thing about Richard's boards. Every time I get a new one I think I hope it is as good as the last one he shaped... Then I ride it and find out it is even better! If only I could truly describe the 6'9" gun he shaped for me 3 years ago. I still take it out the point (Sandon Point, NSW) every time the surf creeps above the 8' mark and it has lost nothing over the years. Excellent paddle power, nice grabbing rails and still the looseness to carve some tight turns once you are 600 metres down the line and the wave has dropped back to 6' or so. Love that board!

Richard has also done some restorations for me. The 6' 4" 1972 G&S Bonza is a classic. It always makes the little surf fun and adds something fresh to my surfing. I am waiting on a 5' 10" twinnie that he is restoring now and am busting to start sliding around on it. Even though I am yet to see it I know it will be finished as if it were made this year not 16 years ago.

Richard is professional yet still friendly and accommodating. He knows everything about shaping and repairing boards and everyone who used his services in "The 'Gong" misses him sorely. Fair enough though, who can resist the warm waters and classic points of Northern NSW.

My advice is, if you are thinking of riding RM boards, do so. There is no bullstuff, only quality, attention to detail and a lovely bloke who is keen to help you surf your best.

Hi Richard,
I have been riding my new board a lot lately and it is going really well. Today I rode it in Sandon point board riders which was held on the reef due to the north wester. I come 1st in my heat. I just thought I let you know that I am impressed with the board.

Hi Rich

Just a quick note today to say that I got the fins this morning and I rode my new board out Sandon Pt. it was about 4-5ft and a little bumpy but the board flew, I was amazed at how fast it went. Another top quality board from you Richard and thank you very much.

I got a few good results lately that I thought that you would like to know about I came 2nd in u18’s at Sandon pt board riders and winning a few other awards such as tube of the year and 8th in club championships. At Woonona I also came 2nd in U18’s And just recently I won my school surfing championship.
