The 14th annual Maui Scholastic Surf Championships may go down as the last time Maui Interscholastic League schools had to compete on an anonymous basis.
For years a contentious issue to become an official Department of Education recognized sport, surfing – the royal sport of Hawaii, after all – will become the real thing for 50th State high schoolers in 2009.
