AUSTRIA: FREEWAY EXHAUSTS CAPACITY

In order to secure the quality of the service, Freenet.at has stopped taking new clients. Freenet was the first company in Austria to launch internet access free of charge in December 2000. Within four weeks, 31,650 users registered for the service, which has now reached its capacity limit. In two weeks' time, Freenet is to start the second phase of expanding the network with Novell systems. The company expects to be able to take new clients at the end of February 2001. By the end of the year Freenet expects to have 500,000 users of the service, that is financed with banner advertising. Jet2Web Internet is currently the Austrian market leader, with about 300,000 clients.
