Henry also offers an amazing journey thru the ages with Under the Covers, a visual look at his work that a he collaborated on with his longtime creative partner and graphic designer, Gary Burden. Henry explains on his website what it is all about.
UNDER THE COVERS is like a magic carpet ride
That takes you through the '60s, '70S
and up to present day, winding its way through
music and festivals and happenings.
The movies, pictures and sounds together provide a
stunning backdrop to the stories
all of these legendary artists tell.
For over 40 years, Henry Diltz's work has graced hundreds of album covers and has been featured in books, magazines, and newspapers. He has produced powerful photographic essays of many of these groups and artists, as well as visual documentation of some of the most famous moments ever, the Monterey Pop Festival and Woodstock.
To celebrate the opening of the Morrison Hotel, the Gallery recently hosted a benefit for the Polinsky Children's Center Auxiliary on the evening of Saturday, February 5th, 2005. A portion of the sales that evening was donated to this safe haven and emergency shelter for children in San Diego.
Besides Henry Diltz's photos the images of Paul Saltzman are now being featured in the gallery. It was Paul who literally stumbled out of the foothills of India's Himalayan Mountains late in 1967 straight into the arms of a spiritual get together that the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's was holding with the Beatles, John, Paul, George, and Ringo who, along with Donovan, Mia Farrow, and the Beach Boy's Mike Love were happily meditating in bliss.
Saltzman was not only welcomed into the group sessions but was allowed to shot Photos with his 35mm Pentax traveling camera of each of the group. After all these years he pulled these amazing images out of storage and they too are part of the Gallery walls at the Morrison Hotel.
Some of the exhibitions coming up include the photography of Graham Nash, Jim Marshall, Elliott Landy, Bob Gruen and Mick Rock.
"Early on in his career," said Gerry Beckley of the band America, "Henry mastered the art of capturing the moment. What he has proved over the decades is the illusive art of capturing life."
Morrison Hotel gallery is open 7 days a week. All of the photographs are available for purchase.
