Maui Surf 49

Surfing was a sport of the ancient Hawaiians and is even more popular in Maui today. Maui's abundant coastline offers big waves for surfing veterans and surfing spots suitable for beginners.

A surfing company may boast that anyone can be riding the surf in just one lesson and that, indeed, was the case when my son Jake tried it the first time. This, however, was not my experience. I had a great time, but I was still "surf-wave illiterate" after my first attempt.

Maui has a surfing company that suits your experience-level, some of which have instructors who have been on the professional surfing tour circuit.

Maui Windsurfing is probably the fastest growing of all the "action sports" in Maui.

The constant and consistent "trade winds" and the total availability to ocean in every direction make windsurfing and its newest cousin "kiteboarding" an absolute natural for Maui, Hawaii. In fact, one stretch of beach on Maui known as Hookipa is considered to be the "Mecca" for windsurfing on the planet.

In Maui, each year there are incredible competitions held there which bring in participants from the world over. This area is without a doubt a bit too "radical" for the inexperienced but we also have wonderful coastlines that are perfect for those who are just learning.
