Friday waves in Santa Cruz

After the great waves of yesterday, the word was out. There is swell in the water, and dawn Friday is the time to surf. Many eager board riders made their way to their favorite breaks in Santa Cruz in anticipation of playing in the waves before heading to work. Many other surfers took the day off from work in order to spend even more time pursuing their sport. So the result was many more surfers in the water at an earlier hour than the day before. And guess what? The waves were smaller and less powerful than those of Thursday.

Not to be deterred, everyone jumped into the rubber suits and hit the water. The lineups were soon dotted with neoprene bundles of protoplasm. It looked like a wetsuit convention. The lucky ones were the longboarders and even the stand up paddlers. The mushy small waves were much better suited for their style of surfing than for the short pointy thrusters that the young shredders tend to ride.
