San Clemente CA-- While associated most often with landscape, the blue-green Pacific is a time tested subject for California’s plein air artists, whose tradition is intertwined with the history of Laguna Beach and the coastlines of California.

Working with oil on canvas Kevin Short is among the finest interpreters of contemporary beachscapes. Based in Orange County, Kevin’s surf art shows a special affinity for the Trestles experience, as revealed in the works currently on display at the Surfing Heritage Foundation through June 05. (pdf attached; online at https://www.surfingheritage.org/content.aspx?id=173 )

That night Kevin Short will be joining Kevin Ancell, Wolfgang Bloch, Rick Rietveld, and Alex Weinstein and others in recognition of the 50th anniversary of Surf Art.

Discussing the people, art, and waves that have influenced and inspired them, the artists will share some of the techniques that make their work unique. Showing opens at 6:30PM, Friday, June 05; symposium begins at 7:15. Hors d’oeuvres and no-host bar available; advance tickets, $30. Proceeds will benefit the non-profit Surfing Heritage Foundation, 949 388 0313 ex. 0, online at surfingheritage.org
