Men’s Winter Range Now Available

Between the Flags ’09 winter collection for men celebrates ‘surf’ with BTF Pacific Merchandise and ‘turf’ with the BTF Beach Rugby collection and is now available in-store and on-line.

This lifestyle collection reflects the feel of the sea, with the salt-encrusted tee shirts the boys wore surfing and the shorts they grew into (then out of) and the wind-cheaters, “trackie-dacks” and hoodies that offered protection against those southerly busters.

The beach rugby range was inspired by the Australian Surf Lifesaving Club’s beach rugby teams that played in local beach competitions between 1918 and 1960. Money was scarce and team uniforms usually consisted of second-had rugby jerseys, cut-off rugby tracks pants and shorts. Again, the beach played a backdrop to an iconic era of Australian history – something you’ll find in every piece of the BTF rugby collection.

Between the Flags continues to celebrate the proud heritage of Surf Life Saving Australia, the foundation upon which Australia’s surf culture was built. A percentage of all profits from this collection will go to SLSA and local surf clubs to help them continue their fearless work.

You’ll find BTF Pacific Merchandise at selected MYER stores, Between the Flags stores and on-line at www.betweentheflags.com.au.

BTF Men’s Pacific Merchandise

Between the Flags will make its first appearance at Fashion Exposed next month showcasing its new menswear label BTF Pacific Merchandise. The summer 08/09 collection has been extraordinarily well received since it was introduced through selected MYER and Between the Flags stores last September. The range comfortably sits alongside both American and European iconic brands but at more competitive pricepoints.

Created by ex-Mambo designer and long time Surf Club member Jon McGuigan, the range appeals to most Aussie males due to its relaxed fit and easy feel. All garments have been ‘salt water washed’, making the fabrics soft and very comfortable.

The summer ’09 collection will be showcased in March – influenced by the romance of the South Seas, the emerging surf culture of the 50’s and 60’s and the early feel of basic work wear.

Since 1994 Between the Flags has been designing quality beach apparel for men, women and children under exclusive licensing agreements with Surf Life Saving Australia and independent surf clubs. The company has since raised over $1 million for Australia’s surf lifesaving movement. Most of the brands include T-shirts, hoodies, polos, cargo shorts and pants, chinos, board shorts, skirts and bikinis as well as a comprehensive range of accessories.

You’ll find Between the Flags at stand No. 2930 in the men’s hall showcasing BTF Pacific Merchandise, BTF Resort and BTF Surf Life.

Australia’s elite surf sports stars are heading back to the beach for a new summer of action-packed competition and this year fans can catch all the action on the Seven Network.

Seven and Surf Life Saving Australia have signed a new broadcast partnership that will see Seven covering the iconic nib Coolangatta Gold, Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Ironman Series and the UBD Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.

Surf Life Saving Australia’s CEO, Brett Williamson OAM, said the partnership with Channel 7 provides broadcast certainty for the surf lifesaving movement and its corporate partners and will assist in the ongoing repositioning of the sport.

“We are one of the most iconic summer sports on the calendar and we are confident that there is a strong audience out there for the action-packed spectacle of Ironman, Ironwoman, ski and board racing along with all the other uniquely Australian surf sports,” he said.

“Channel 7’s observational documentary ‘Surf Patrol’ has enjoyed tremendous success on the network over the past two years and it makes sense for us to have all of our television properties on the one network to maximise our leveraging opportunities,” he said.
