Newquay's Fistral Beach is a surfer's paradise. This Cornish beach is the surf capital of UK, with world-class surfing competitions held here.

Due to its fame and excellent surf opportunities, Fistral can get very packed over the summer -- both on the sand and in the water.

Stunning Fistral is a sandy beach that faces the Atlantic Ocean. At the back of the beach are steep sand dunes. Fistral is divided into three beaches -- South Fistral, North Fistral and Little Fistral, a small bay that can only be reached at low tide.

The reason surfers flock to Fistral is has a high exposure to swells, which means there are consistent waves -- which are often of high surf quality.

As you'd expect from the beach that's the centre of the UK surf scene, you'll find the British Surfing Association at the end of Fistral, alongside the Newquay Surf Life Saving Club and the Newquay Boardrider Club.

Among the international surf competitions held at Fistral are the Ripcurl Boardmasters Festival.

Fistral has a range of facilities, like lifeguards, toilets (including disabled), a large beach café, cold showers, changing rooms and surf hire and tuition.
