Surfing is the ancient tradition of the Hawaiians and the feeling of riding an ocean wave last a lifetime. Hawaii Lifeguard Surf Instructors (H.L.S.I.) is committed to perpetuating the heritage of surfing and the Hawaiian culture with aloha and a safety first attitude.
Hawaii is well known for powerful surf arriving at rugged shores. Historically surfers were individuals who grew up near the ocean, gaining life experience and awareness from a young age. Often they were sons and daughters of fishermen, surfers, and elders of the sea.
As Hawaii Lifeguard Surf Instructors (HLSI), we live and work amidst of the ocean sports environment. HLSI surf lessons and coaching programs were born through our passion for the sport and experience in ocean safety. We promote surfing, lifesaving, training, observation skills, and above all, a safety-first attitude.
On that foundation (awareness in water safety), HLSI promotes the skills necessary to learn and progress in the sport of surfing. Your instructor will have a minimum of 15 years experience surfing and holds a current certification with the American Red Cross in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR and Ocean Water Rescue.
HLSI is an Ohana (a family) of surf-lifesavers with broad experience in teaching the sport of surfing, which has inherent risks and demands physical endurance. HLSI makes decisions based on changing ocean conditions. We feel that the most educational and fun experience is provided with a two-hour lesson, normally in a small group. We offer special one-hour lessons, tandem surfing starting at 3 years old, individual coaching for all skill levels, and exclusive private guides.
