Welcome to Baleal Surf Camp

Baleal Surf Camp is a small family company run by two brothers who from their early youth have felt a deep connection to the vital energy of the Ocean and, naturally, to its waves.

Baleal beach locals, the brothers created the first Portuguese Surf Camp in 1993, bringing together the best of two worlds… On the one hand, living by the seaside and being able to go surfing regularly, and on the other working in a business that is extremely gratifying to them on a existential and human level.

Teaching people how to surf while giving them an unforgettable experience is our main goal, and what has motivated us throughout these last years.
Why Us?

1. We are located on the Peniche Peninsula in the Western region of Portugal.
Known for its famous Supertubos beach, this region is considered ideal for learning to surf, on its variety of north- and south-facing beaches. Within the small space of 5 km, you can always find a surf-spot perfect for your surfing skill level. You’ll make the most of your time, doing just what you like to do – surfing!

2. Wouldn’t it be great to have a beach where you could learn to surf all by yourself? Well we have one for you, from June until the end of September. Baleal Surf Camp is the concessionaire for a beach in Baleal called Cantinho da Baía, where you can have all the privilege and exclusiveness you could want. Moreover, it’s a sandy-bottomed beach with smooth waves, and a great place to either learn to surf or perfect your surfing skills.

3. We know how significant a factor the closeness of your lodgings to the beach is in making your choice for a surfing holiday. One of our best assets is that our houses are only 5 minutes away from our Surf Center, located on Cantinho da Baía, literally right on the beach. All you’ve got to do is take a walk down to the seaside, get your wetsuit and board, and start your session. No complications, no shuttling around – easy and practical.

4. Is it possible to learn to surf in just one week? It is certainly possible, but only if you take personalized lessons. At Baleal Surf Camp we take the quality of our teaching very seriously. Our maximum ratio of 8 students to two teachers – a surfing instructor and a surfing assistant – ensures that each individual gets the necessary attention and can progress rapidly, all the while safeguarding the essential aspects of safety.
Baleal, the Surfing Center of Peniche

Baleal Surf Camp offers lodging either in hostel or apartments, high quality surfing classes, equipment rental, and surfing guide services.

Located directly at the surf spot on Cantinho da Baía, our structure includes beach support services on our granted beach, lifeguards, a restaurant and refreshments service, toilets, showers, a Wi-Fi system, surfing school, and surf equipment rentals.

At night, our beach bar – named after the camp’s founder: Bruno’s Bar -- is, to put it modestly, one of the most outstanding night spots in Western Portugal, and its mythical evenings have for more than 10 years meant guaranteed good times.

But this region isn’t just all about surfing. Also close by are excellent golf courses, the gastronomic delights of Peniche, famous for its fish and shellfish, and beaches that are well known for their quality and safety; the region is also home to a number of excellent wineries, and, in Óbidos, to one of the most well-preserved places of historical heritage in all Portugal.
