It started when I was about 5 years old. We were fishing out at the Long Beach breakwater with my Grandfather and my Dad. We were anchored and the boat was moving up and down as the swells rolled under our 16’ wooded cabin cruiser… Or maybe it was down in Baja a few years later, same boat only this time it was Todos Santos Island 12 miles offshore of Ensenada and the waves and the fish were much larger and the feeling more intense. Combine that with a trip that summer with my friend Marty to Playa del Rey, we had his older brothers Dave Sweet Longboard. It was the first time we had ever surfed. We traded off riding the white water in all day long. I’ll never forget that day. I was forever hooked on the ocean.
And now many moons later I still have that same feeling. Still surfing, fishing, traveling, and working in the shop. We started Surf City back in 1978 with a plan and a vision. Our plan was to open a store that was a real surf shop that catered to surfers and people that wanted to learn about surfing. Not everyone is as lucky as I, to have lived the life. My job is to pass that feeling on to as may people as possible.
Got any questions about surfboards, come by the shop or drop me a line. Confused about all the hype in the magazines about surf products, email me, and I’ll give you the low down. If you want any information about surf travel, tell me where you want to go and if I haven’t been there I’ll find someone who has and give you the scoop.
I’ve been in this business before it was a business. I’m here for you.
Keep Surfing,
Mark Allison
