Cody is determined to make a name for himself in the "true story" of "Surf's Up."
Cody-who is fatherless and wants to find somebody to look up to-wants to surf and enter a competition. While Cody's mother and brother don't understand his obsession with surfing, Cody is very determined to make it as big time surfer.
Cody heads for the big competition that's in memory of the best surfer in the history of surfing the - Big Z. Along the way he makes a great friend in Chicken Joe, a fellow surfing competitor, and meets a tough but lovable lifeguard named Lani. Lani, Cody's love interest, is there just when he needs her.
The story takes a suspenseful turn when Cody meets Tank "The Shredder" Evans who has won the surfing competition before. Tank is very arrogant and thinks he deserves all the credit for dominating the competition (can someone say bully).
Along the way Cody meets The Big Z. Big Z says he's washed up, but Cody thinks otherwise. Afterwards, Big Z takes Cody under his wing and tries to show him the ropes on how to become a great surfer, which is exactly what Cody wants.
"Surf's Up" is a story that wants to immerse you in a deep surfing experience that's set up like a reality show. This is a fresh idea when it comes to telling an animated story because of its new approach.
You can see Cody go through a lot of experiences to get to the top with your whole family, or just as grown up trying to have a cool time.
