The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory, which is in effect until 6 pm Tuesday.
A south swell has arrived with sufficient energy to boost surf heights to near the 8-foot advisory level along south facing shores. Models show this swell will last through Tuesday, with a second south swell expected soon afterwards.
A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.
