Surf Beach 51

The newly appointed Governor, Dr Marie Bashir has agreed to officially welcome the community parade which begins the Surf Gymkhanan on Sunday May 13th,, organised by Waverley Council, to celebrate the Centenary of Federation.

The Parade will leave Park Drive and pass into Campbell Parade causing some disruption to traffic from 10.30 – 11.30.

Bands, schools, marching bands, surf clubs and community groups as well as vintage cars will take part in the march. The Governor will arrive at 10.45am and the street parade will pass the official podium at 11am followed by the flag raising ceremony.

The Surf Gymkhana will begin at 12 noon with our four surf clubs, Bondi, Bondi North, Bronte and Tamarama, competing. Our surf clubs, include the oldest in Australia and they will be doing re-enactments of 1930’s rescues with the line and reel.

There will be a delicious multicultural food fair and great old films of Bondi on show in the Pavilion. Amongst the films is the 1965 Film Australia "Surf Beach". There will be a number of activities for children as well so it’s a great family day out!
