Surf Forecast 61

Memorial Day marked the kick-off for the education station at Honolua Bay, coordinated during the summer months by Project S.E.A.-Link, as part of the statewide Makai Watch program. A very low-impact but eye-catching setup was established, consisting of a couple plastic tables with interpretive materials such as stand up displays conveying key reef etiquette messages, a fish identification binder and other reference materials that people enjoy looking at before and after snorkeling. Also, the set of reef stewardship messages ("Ten Things You Can Do to Protect the Reef") that was created locally by the Maui County International Year of the Reef Community Taskforce are also presented to visitors in a simple binder which takes seconds to flip through but presents the messages in a clear and concise manner.
